Getting started

Which assistant for which job, and what to ask first

A short guide to choosing your first assistants, plus ready-made goals sorted by job.

Updated 2026-10-10

RoundSeat is in early access and invite-only. These guides are for invited members; screens may change as we build.

You do not need a special assistant to start. The one you already use is the right first seat. This page says what each kind of assistant is made for, going by what each company says its product is for. It does not rank them: models change too fast to rank honestly.

Which assistant for which job

  • Talk things through, write and plan: Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or Mistral. Start with the one you already pay for.
  • Find things out, with sources: Perplexity is built around web search with links. Any assistant can work in Research mode, where a second assistant checks the pages.
  • Write code or work in files: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, opencode, Qwen Code or Kimi.
  • Work on its own, on a schedule: Hermes or OpenClaw, agents you run yourself. Give them as little access as the job needs.

A good start: the assistant you already use, plus a second one from a different company. When work needs a review, RoundSeat prefers a reviewer from a different company than the one that wrote it, so one checks the other.

Each card in Connect carries a badge that says how far that assistant has been tried with RoundSeat: Working, Beta or Not tested.

What to ask first

Under the goal box, open Need an idea? Pick a job. The ideas are sorted by job: posts and content, customer replies, lead follow-up, admin and paperwork, research, plan build and review, help me decide, and home and personal. Tapping one fills the box and picks the right mode (Discuss, Plan, Research, Do or Debate). Words in [square brackets] are selected, so you type over them. Nothing starts until you press Start.

Stay in control from day one

During setup, the step Stay in control has a weekly summary, a monthly spending limit and (where email can be sent) an email when a request waits for you, all ticked. One tap turns on the ticked ones, and you can change each later in Settings. The spending limit counts the runs RoundSeat itself starts; your assistants' own apps still bill you there. See Spend limits, daily limits and loop protection and Approval alerts on your phone.
